The Wolverine

Dr. Charles Xavier was an American geneticist, biophysicist and psychologist who served as the Headmaster and founder of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. A Mutant, specifically a Telepath, Xaiver's reach was far and wide, with him being regarded as one of the most important activists in the cause for equality, even by his enemies. A parapalegic, Xavier was unable to use his lower body and therefore required a wheelchair, one of his most defining aspects.

Biography Edit

Mutant and Proud Edit

Borne to the wealthy Sharon Xavier in Salem, New York in 1932, Charles Xavier was destined to have success from the start. His twin brother, P. Xavier, was born brain dead. A genius child, when Xavier's mutation activated, he began to think he was going crazy as he kept on hearing voices in his head. It was only later that he discovered that the voices were in the heads of everybody else and if he so wished, he could read their mind. Finding himself isolated, Charles longed to meet somebody else like himself.

One day, Charles' wish came true as he found his mother scrounging for food. Aware of his mother's high standards, Charles probed the woman's mind and found her to be a shapeshifting girl his age, Raven Darkholme. Convincing his mother and stepfather to adopt the girl, Charles and Raven came to care for each other as brother and sister.

Due to his naturally high intellect, Charles managed to complete high school at the age of sixteen without the use of his powers. Attending Oxford University, he was soon joined by Raven. There he studied a whole host of topics, namely Genetics, Biophysics and Psychology. Upon graduating in 1962, Charles found himself to be a full fledged professor with a bright future ahead of him.

The First Class Edit

Shortly after graduating, Charles was approached by American CIA agent and medical scientist, Moira MacTaggert, on the topic of the Hellfire Club. After probing MacTaggert's mind and learning the threat of Sebastian Shaw, Charles and Raven returned to the America, ready to aid the CIA. Although initially rebuffed by CIA seniors John McCone and William Stryker Sr., the Man in Black agreed to help Charles and Moira.

Helping the US Coast Guard set up an attack on Shaw, Charles was surprised at Shaw's employment of the telepathic Emma Frost. Finding Erik Lehnsherr also trying to kill Shaw, Charles stopped the desperate mutant from certain doom. Bringing Lehnsherr to the CIA's Division X facility, the two agreed to take down Shaw together. Meeting the young Hank McCoy, Charles and Erik began to recruit more mutants to their cause: locating Angel Salvadore, Armando Muñoz, Alex Summers and Sean Cassidy, being rebuffed only by a Canadian mutant.

Heading to the Soviet Union to capture Shaw, Erik and Charles attempted to disrupt a meeting involving a Soviet general. Finding Emma Frost there instead, the two defeated her and learned of Shaw's plan to trigger World War Three. Apprehending Frost, Charles and Erik returned to America and learned of a devastating attack on Division X by the Hellfire Club that left Armando Muñoz dead.

Relocating Division X to his mansion, Charles helped each mutant hone their skills and become adept fighters. Charles' friendship with Erik also grew, as he used his telepathy to help him increase his magnetic powers. After the Hellfire Club launched the Cuban Missile Crisis, Charles led Division X into the battle against Sebastian Shaw. Unable to locate Shaw's submarine, Charles was later forced to take control of a Soviet officer to avert nuclear catastrophe. Using Sean Cassidy's mutation, Charles was finally able to lead Division X towards Shaw's position. Staying in the X-Jet, Charles linked himself with Erik to defeat Shaw. Much to Charles' dismay, though, he was unable to stop his friend's darker nature from emerging and was distraught after Erik killed Shaw.

With the American and Russian naval fleet both fearful of the mutants on the Cuban beach, Xavier's attention was diverted and he was forced to fight Erik after his friend attempted to destroy both fleets. After Moira MacTaggert attacked Erik to try and stop him, a deflected bullet hit Charles in the spine, paralyzing him and ending the crisis.

After a remorseful Erik left with Raven, Charles returned to his estate with Hank. Hoping to get over losing both Erik and Raven by opening a school, Charles revealed his plans to Moira. Regretfully wiping Moira's memory of her time with him, Charles and Hank began their plans to create the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Depression Edit

Though he had the intention of helping mutants, building a newer and better Cerebro, Charles was too distracted by the events around him. Charles hated being confined to his wheelchair, hated Erik for betraying him and hated that Raven left him. After Erik supposedly assassinated John F. Kennedy, Charles and Hank secretly attended the Trial of Magneto. After finally starting the school, Charles was only able to run it for a few months as the Vietnam War started. With most of his senior students and teachers being drafted, Charles was forced to close the school.

With only Hank left to help him, Charles was given a serum that treated his spine. Although the serum let him walk, Charles soon discovered that it took away at his powers. Abusing the serum, Charles spiralled into a drug addled depression. Aging beyond his years, by the time Charles realized what the serum had done to him, he had already lost all of his hair.

Deciding to embrace his wheelchair, Charles began to take less and less of the serum to ease himself back into his powers. Approaching the US House of Representatives in a private closed session, Charles asked for mutant freedoms, including interrogation and privacy. Determined to right the second time around, Charles broke Erik out of his prison and embraced his enemy like a brother.

Together, the two reopened Xavier's School for Gifted Children, both having a newfound purpose. Taking in Jason Stryker, the son of William Stryker, Charles attempted to try and convince the boy to use his powers for the good of people and never harm. However, he failed, with his failure being one of his biggest mistakes.

The New Class Edit

Very quickly, Charles and Erik revamped Cerebro, expanding it's capabilities and turning the machine much more powerful than it originally was. Although Charles continued to use the serum to walk, he used it much less and had almost fully regained the use of his powers. Together with Erik, Charles started off his new class by recruiting Jean Grey.

After learning his failure with Jason had resulted in William Stryker experimenting on mutants on Three Mile Island, Charles travelled to the facility by helicopter. Detecting the presence of the Wolverine and Scott Summers, Charles guided the latter to lead the other mutants, of whom Emma Silverfox was a part of, to him. With all the mutants safe, Charles took them back and enrolled them in his school.

Discovering the amazing potential of Jean's powers, Charles was shocked when she developed dissociative identity disorder, creating a persona called the phoenix. Despite Erik's pleas, Charles went ahead and placed psychic barriers on her to block the Phoenix from her mind. The event placed a rift between Charles and Erik, prompting the latter to leave the school on less than amicable terms.

Of Charles' schoolchildren, Scott Summers, Jean Grey and Ororo Munroe were left without homes and thus decided to stay behind to become teachers at the school. Charles also kept an eye on WIlliam Stryker and the amnesic Wolverine, believing he could make up for his failure with Jason by mentoring the immortal mutant. Charles also trained Scott, Jean and Ororo as the X-Men, so that they could serve as a peacekeeping unit between humans and mutants.

The Phoenix Saga Edit

Running into Erik at a debate between Jean and Senator Robert Kelly, Charles confronted his old friend and grew suspicious. After Sabretooth began to pursue Wolverine and Rogue, Charles sent the X-Men after them. After the X-Men rescued Wolverine, Charles was shocked by Logan's hostility but remained patient with him. Offering Logan residency within his estate, Charles later had a fierce confrontation with Erik.

Giving up all hope in Erik, Charles decided his friend to have succumbed to madness. After Rogue ran away from the school, Charles activated Cerebro to try and find her but was rendered comatose as the machine had been poisoned by Raven. After recovering, Charles learned that the X-Men had defeated the Erik's Brotherhood of Mutants in the Battle of the Statue of Liberty.

After learning that the mutant Kurt Wagner attacked the president, Charles sent Storm and Jean in to apprehend the mutant. Believing Erik to be connected to the attack, Charles went to confront his enemy. Learning that Erik had been brainwashed by William Stryker, Charles was himself gassed by Stryker. As he passed out, Charles watched as Lady Deathstrike captured Scott. Taken to Alkali Lake and fixed to a neural inhibitor, Charles tried to dissuade Stryker from his plans but failed.

Horrified at what Stryker turned Jason into, Charles was left alone in a room with a false Cerebro with his biggest failure. Although he tried to resist, due to the neural inhibitor, Charles fell prey to Jason's visions. Unknowingly, Charles began to use the false Cerebro to target all the mutants in the world for destruction. After Erik and Raven interfered, Charles' began to target all the humans instead. Rescued from the Jason's visions by the X-Men, Charles boarded the X-Jet as the Battle of Alkali Lake came to a close.

However, as Jean needed to sacrifice herself to save everyone else, Charles had one final conversation with her before departing. Although depressed at having had lost one who was a daughter to him, Charles took the X-Men to Washington, D.C. to confront the current President of the United States of America.

Sensing something wrong with Jean's watery grave at Alkali Lake, Charles expressed concern for Scott and made his inheritance clear to Ororo. After Jean was discovered alive and Scott dead, Charles and Erik both confronted her simultaneously in her childhood home. Seeing the psychic barriers he had placed in her years before coming down, Charles failed to convince her to join him over Erik. After Erik tricked Jean into believing Charles wanted to give her the Leech Cure, Charles willingly allowed Jean to disintegrate his body.

Before what would have been certain death, Charles transferred his consciousness to that of P. Xavier in Muir Island. Waking up after the Battle of Alcatraz, Charles greeted Moira and began to recuperate.

Return Edit

Due to the muscular atrophy that plagued P. Xavier's body, Charles looked like had before his disintegration and was once again confined to a wheelchair. Distressed at the Sentinels that Trask Industries was developing, Charles realized that he would need Erik's help to defeat the dangerous threat. Helping Erik escape from prison, Charles then proceeded to locate Logan. With Erik by his side, Charles and Erik confronted Logan at an airport and recruited him to their cause.

After Trask Industries shut down the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Charles also recruited Ororo into their ranks. Although the four fought against the Sentinels for years, they continually failed. After locating the Free Mutants, Charles and Erik formulated a time travel plan that avoid their catastrophic future.

Although Charles himself was unable to go back in time, he decided to send Logan back to stop the assassination of Bolivar Trask at the hands Raven. As Kitty Pryde sent Logan back, Charles and Erik guarded over the Wolverine's body as the Battle for the Future began. As time began to diverge and the New Timeline began to form, Charles was met by the mind of his younger self who was with the time travelling Logan in the past. Remembering the troubles he had faced at that time, Charles convinced his younger self to try and save Raven to save the future. Satisfied, Charles sat alongside a wounded Erik as the two reminisced their years at odds. Embracing Erik as his brother one last time, the two were confronted by the arriving Sentinels.

Before they could be killed, though, the New Timeline came into existence. Charles disappeared as time was overwritten and his own history was destroyed.

Powers Edit

Due to his telepathy, Charles possessed a wide array of mutant powers. The most prominent were telepathic communication, telepathic manipulation and paralyzing perception of time. Through Cerebro, Charles possessed the ability to track the location of mutants and even kill them. All of Charles' powers could be shunted by diamond or the substances that composed Shaw's Helmet. Charles could also create a telepathic cloak, create an astral projection of himself and transfer his consciousness.

With only Hank left to help him, Charles was given a serum that treated his spine. Although the serum let him walk, Charles soon discovered that it took away at his powers. Abusing the serum, Charles spiralled into a drug addled depression.

Confused by a large racket started by Hank one day, Charles went to investigate and found the Wolverine there. Dismissing the Wolverine's claims about the dark end of the Original Timeline, Charles recognized Logan as the Canadian mutant who had refused to aid him prior to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Agreeing to help as if would mean saving Raven, Charles was angered when he was told they needed Erik's help. Recruiting the help of Peter Maximoff, Charles helped Logan and Hank free Erik but continued to harbor resentment for his former ally.

With the Battle for the Future starting, Charles, Hank, Erik and Logan travelled to Paris to stop Raven from assassinating Bolivar Trask. Although successful, Charles was unable to stop Erik from going rogue and Raven from fleeing. Returning to his estate, Charles realized that he needed to use his powers to save Raven. Refusing his serum, Charles began to feel his control over his legs fade and his powers return. Heading to Cerebro, Charles tried to use the machine to find Raven but had grown so unaccustomed to life without powers that he was unable to focus.

Seeing into Logan's life and taking a glimpse at the future controlled by the Sentinels, Charles was given the ability to send his consciousness through Logan's body and to the future. Horrified by the destruction, Charles found his older self there and was able to communicate with him. Persuaded by his future self that Erik's militancy was not the way, Charles returned his mind to the past invigorated with hope and determination to save Raven.

Heading to Washington, D.C. to watch President Nixon unveil Bolivar Trask's Sentinel program, Charles was trapped under debris after Erik surrounded the area with a football stadium. As Raven was about to assassinate Trask, Charles telepathically reasoned with her and convinced her not to do it. After she instead shot Erik, Charles agreed to let his old friend go free, aware that Erik's capture could potentially start mutant persecution. Letting Raven go, Charles and Hank left the scene together, contemplating the future and planning reopen the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

The Professor Edit

Eventually, Charles Xavier reopened his school. With his new staff, Charles spearheaded the mission of teaching mutants to control their abilities and not assimilate, but rather integrate themselves and be a responsible part of society. One of Charles' first new students was Jubilee, who also became his star pupil. Charles also enrolled Jean Grey, whom he realized had incredible power and would struggle to control it. Despite Hank's pleas, Charles also refused to create the X-Men, as such a group would be militant in nature.

While teaching one day, Charles was approached by Alex Summers, who brought his younger brother, Scott Summers, in. Testing Scott's powers, Charles was impressed and readily enrolled the young mutant in as a student. After a massive earthquake caused Jean to have a stressful nightmare, Charles approached her and was shocked by the visions she was having. Despite this, he managed to calm her down.

Informed by Hank that the earthquake originated in Cairo, Charles used Cerebro to investigate the site and discovered Moira MacTaggert to be involved. Heading with Alex to the CIA Headquarters, Charles was faced to confront the fact that he had wiped Moira's memory, but also the possibility of En Sabah Nur and the Four Horsemen being active once more. Returning to the school with Moira and Alex, Charles was surprised to see Raven there with Hank. Meeting with Raven alone, Charles was frustrated when she asked him to form the X-Men but agreed to locate Erik after learning of the deaths of Magda Gurzsky and Nina Gurzsky.

Using Cerebro, Charles located Erik but was vehemently denied by his old friend. Before he could try to convince Erik further, Cerebro and Charles were hijacked by En Sabah Nur, who connected himself into the neural network. Losing control over Cerebro, Charles barely managed to convince Alex to destroy his machine. After the destruction, Charles left Cerebro's chamber only to be confronted by Nur and the Four Horsemen. Kidnapped and taken to Cairo, Charles begged Erik to leave Nur's side but was turned down.

Told to deliver a message to the entire world, Charles was initially unable to do so but had his powers amplified by En Sabah Nur. While giving Nur's message, Charles sent a secret one out to Jean to reveal his location while also refuting Nur's Darwinian ideologies. Learning Nur's attempt to take control of his body and thus powers, Charles was helpless. Chained in Nur's new pyramid, Charles managed to resist the transference long enough to be saved by Kurt Wagner but still lost his hair and received a head injury.

Waking up in a relatively secure location, Xavier struggled to find a way to fight back as he realized he was outmatched by Nur in every possible way. Realizing that he and Nur still had a mental connection, Xavier summoned his opponent to the Astral Plane where they fought mentally. Despite initially having the upper hand, Charles was overpowered and defeated by Nur, who then began the process to possess Charles' body.

With his last bit of resistance, Charles begged Jean to enter the Astral Plane and unleash her full power on the distracted En Sabah Nur. Guiding Jean carefully, Charles managed to lead her to victory and facilitated the destruction of Nur.

Returning to the school, Charles was present as it was rebuilt by Erik and Jean. Finally seeing the X-Men as a peacekeeping group rather than a militant one, Charles formed the group. Having a conversation with the departing Erik, Charles watched as the Hank and Raven led the X-Men in a training session in the Danger Room.

Later Life Edit

For decades Charles ran his school as the wise professor, and finally, in the year 2023, Logan's original conscience returned to his body, making a request to learn of what happened after the Battle for the Future.

As time passed, however, Charles found his mental state deteriorating. Being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Charles came under the care of Logan and Caliban. Learning of Laura Kinney, a mutant similar to Logan, Charles helped find and care for her.

Powers Edit

Due to his telepathy, Charles possessed a wide array of mutant powers. The most prominent were telepathic communication & manipulation and paralyzing time. Through Cerebro, Charles possessed the ability to track the location of mutants and even kill them. All of Charles' powers could be shunted by diamond or the substances that composed Shaw's Helmet. Charles could also create a telepathic cloak, astrally project himself and transfer his mind.
